Pakistan Railways

Pakistan Railways is the national railway service of Pakistan that provides train transportation services to passengers and cargo across the country. Pakistan Railways has a long history, dating back to the 19th century when the British government introduced railroads to the Indian subcontinent.

Today, Pakistan Railways operates a network of trains that covers a distance of over 8,000 kilometers and connects major cities and towns across Pakistan. The train services are popular among locals and tourists who prefer to travel by train due to its convenience, affordability, and scenic routes.

Pakistan Railways offers various classes of travel, including economy class, air-conditioned lower class, air-conditioned business class and air-conditioned sleeper class for 2 individuals. Passengers can also choose from a range of seating options, including reclining seats and sleeper compartments. Some of the more luxurious trains even have dining cars and entertainment facilities on board.

While Pakistan Railways faces challenges such as outdated infrastructure and equipment, the government has launched initiatives to modernize and improve the railway system. These efforts include up gradation of coaches, the introduction of new locomotives, and upgrade of existing railway tracks.

Pakistan Railways plays an important role in the transportation system of Pakistan, connecting people and communities across the country and contributing to the economic development of the country and needs more attention to become profitable.

Present Position in Railways

Pakistan Railways had been facing financial and operational challenges for several years. The railway network in Pakistan had been in decline for decades, with outdated infrastructure, limited investment, and management issues.

However, the government of Pakistan has been taking steps to revitalize the railway sector and improve its performance. In recent years, Pakistan Railways has undergone significant modernization and expansion, with new locomotives, passenger coaches, and infrastructure projects being launched.

One of the major projects that Pakistan Railways is working on is the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which includes the construction of a new railway line from Karachi to Peshawar, and the upgrading of existing rail infrastructure. This project is expected to significantly improve the efficiency and reliability of the railway network in Pakistan. Furthermore, Pakistan Railways has also been working on improving its customer services, including the introduction of an online booking system, live location tracking of trains and the upgrading of passenger facilities at major stations.
